Genesis 41

1 It came to pass at the end of two full years, Pharaoh dreamed. Behold, he stood by the river. 2 Further, there came up out of the river seven cows, well favored and fat fleshed; and they fed in the reed grass. 3 Behold, seven other cows came up after them out of the river, ill favored and lean fleshed, and stood by the other cows on the bank of the river. 4 The ill favored and lean fleshed cows ate up the seven well favored and fat cows. Then Pharaoh awoke. 5 He slept again and dreamed a second time. Behold, seven ears of grain came up on one stalk, healthy and good. 6 Then behold, seven ears, thin and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them. 7 The thin ears swallowed up the seven healthy and full ears. Then Pharaoh awoke, and he realized it was a dream. 8 It came to pass in the morning his spirit was troubled. He sent for all the magicians and all the wise men of Egypt. Pharaoh told them his dreams; but there was none who could interpret them for Pharaoh. 9 Then the chief butler spoke to Pharaoh, saying, I remember my faults this day: 10 Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me inside the prison house of the captain of the guard, both me and the chief baker. 11 When we were there we both dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream. 12 Along with us there was a young man, a Hebrew, the servant of the captain of the guard. We told him our dreams, and he interpreted them to us; each man according to his dream he interpreted. 13 It came to pass, as he interpreted to us, that’s how it was. I was restored to my office, and the baker was hung. 14 Pharaoh then sent for Joseph. They brought him hastily out of the dungeon. He shaved himself, and changed his clothing. Then he was presented to Pharaoh. 15 Pharaoh said to Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. I have heard it said of you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret the meaning. 16 Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me to be able to do this, but God will give Pharaoh the answer of peace he seeks. 17 Pharaoh spoke again to Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood on the bank of the river. 18 Behold, there came up out of the river seven cows, fat fleshed and well favored, they fed in the reed grass. 19 Behold, seven other cows came up after them, poor, very ill favored and lean fleshed, such as I have never seen before in all the land of Egypt for badness. 20 Then the lean, ill favored cows ate up the first seven fat cows. 21 When they had consumed them, it was not noticeable they had eaten them; because they were still ill favored, as before. Then I awoke. 22 I saw within my dream, behold, seven ears came up on one stalk, full and good. 23 Then behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them. 24 Then the thin ears swallowed up the seven good ears. I told these dreams to the magicians; but there was no one who could explain them to me. 25 Joseph finally addressed Pharaoh, he said to him, The dreams of Pharaoh are one. What God is about to do he has declared to Pharaoh. 26 The seven good cows are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dreams are one. 27 The seven lean and ill favored cows that came up after them are seven years, and also the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind; these will be seven years of famine. 28 This thing I’ve spoken to Pharaoh, is what God is about to do. He has shown it to Pharaoh. 29 Behold, there is about to come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt. 30 After this there will arise seven years of famine; and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt. The famine will completely consume the land; 31 and the plenty will not be known or remembered in the land by reason of the famine that follows it. It shall be very grievous. 32 For this reason, the dream was doubled when given to Pharaoh, it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass. 33 Now therefore let Pharaoh search out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt. 34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint overseers over the land. Gather a fifth part of the goods produced in the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years. 35 Let them gather all the food of these good years that grows, and store up the collected grain in a safe place for food in the cities, and let them keep it. 36 The food shall be stored in the land to be used during the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; so the land does not perish through the famine. 37 This thing seemed good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants. 38 Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find anyone like this man, a man in whom is the spirit of God? 39 Pharaoh said to Joseph, For in as much as God has shown you all of this, there is no one as discreet and wise as you are. 40 I will put you over my house, and according to your word all my people will be ruled. Only the throne is excluded, I will be greater than you. 41 Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt. 42 Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in fine garments. He put a gold chain around his neck; 43 and had him ride in the second chariot which he owned. The people cried before him, Bow the knee, so Pharaoh set him to rule over all the land of Egypt. 44 Pharaoh said to Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without your approval no man will lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt. 45 Pharaoh changed Joseph's name to Zaphenath-paneah; and he gave him Asenath as a wife, she was the daughter of Poti-phera, priest of On. Joseph went out and looked over the land of Egypt. 46 Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and journeyed throughout all the land of Egypt. 47 In the seven plenteous years the food from the earth abundantly grew by handfuls. 48 He gathered up all the food of the seven years in the land of Egypt, storing up food in the cities. The food that grew in the fields around the cities, he also stored up in the same manner. 49 Joseph stored grain as the sand of the sea, very much of it, until he stopped counting it, so great was the quantity; for it was without number. 50 Joseph and his wife had two sons in the year before the famine began, Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, birthed them for him. 51 Joseph named the first born Manasseh. For he said, God has made me forget all my toil, and my father's house. 52 The name of the second he chose to be known as Ephraim. For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction. 53 The seven years of plenty in the land of Egypt came to an end. 54 Then the seven years of famine began, just as Joseph had forewarned. The famine was everywhere in all lands; but in the land of Egypt there was bread everywhere. 55 When all the land of Egypt was under famine conditions, the people cried out to Pharaoh for bread. Pharaoh said to his entire population, Go to Joseph, do whatever he tells you to. 56 The famine was across the whole earth, then at this time Joseph opened up all the store houses. He sold grain to the Egyptians; the famine was felt painful in the land of Egypt. 57 All countries around about came to Egypt to trade with Joseph in order to buy grain, because the famine was so severe in all the earth.

Genesis 42

1 Now Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, so Jacob said to his sons, Why do you just look at one another? 2 He further said, Behold, I have heard there is grain in Egypt. Go down there, buy from them for us so we can live and not die. 3 So Joseph's ten brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt. 4 But Benjamin, Joseph's full brother remained, Jacob did not allow him to go with his other brothers; for he said, If he goes harm may befall him. 5 The sons of Israel arrived to trade, along with all the others who also came. The famine was in the land of Canaan. 6 Joseph was governor over Egypt; it was him who sold grain to all the people of the land. Joseph's brothers came before him, and bowed down themselves to him with their faces to the earth. 7 Joseph saw his brothers, and knew them, but he did not reveal it to them. He remained a stranger to them. He spoke roughly to them; and said, Where do you come from? They answered, From the land of Canaan to buy food. 8 Joseph recognized his brothers, but they did not know him. 9 Joseph remembered the dreams he had dreamed of them, and said to them, You are spies; you have come here to see the nakedness of the land. 10 They said to him, No, my lord, we are here only to buy food. We are your servants. 11 We are all one man's sons; we are true men, your servants are not spies. 12 He said to them, No, you are here to see the nakedness of the land. 13 They said, We, your servants, are twelve brothers, all the sons of one man in the land of Canaan. The youngest is with our father, and another is no longer. 14 Joseph said to them, It is as I have said to you, you are surely spies. 15 In this way you will prove if you are telling the truth: for by the life of Pharaoh you shall not be allowed to leave here, except your youngest brother come to us. 16 Send one from your number, let him fetch your brother, and the rest of you are to be bound, that your words may be proven, whether they are true. Or else, by the life of Pharaoh, surely you are spies. 17 He locked them all up together inside for three days. 18 Then Joseph said to them on the third day, Do as I say and live, for I fear God. 19 If you are true men, let one of you remain bound in the prison house; but the rest of you are free to go and carry grain for the famine of your houses. 20 Then bring your youngest brother back to me; in this way shall your words be verified, and you will not die. They listened to him. 21 Then they said one to the other, We are certainly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he besought us, but we would not hear his anguish. Therefore this distress has found us out. 22 Reuben answered them, saying, Did I not say to you all not to harm him? Do not sin against the child. But you refused to hear. Now we face the price that his blood requires. 23 They never knew Joseph could understood them; for there was an interpreter who translated between them. 24 Joseph turned himself away from them, and wept; then he returned, and spoke further with them. Simeon was taken from among them, and bound before their eyes. 25 Then Joseph commanded for their vessels to be filled with grain, and to restore every man's money back to his sack. He also gave them provisions for along the way, and so it was done to them. 26 The donkeys were loaded up with the grain, and then the group of travelers departed from Egypt. 27 As one of them opened his sack to give his donkey some food, at the temporary lodging place, he found his money; there it was in the mouth of his sack. 28 He told his brothers, My money is here; it is in my sack. Their hearts failed them, and they turned trembling one to another, saying, What is this God has done to us? 29 Then they arrived to Jacob their father in the land of Canaan, and told him all that had befallen them, saying, 30 The man who is the lord of the land, spoke roughly with us, he took us for spies of the country. 31 We said to him, We are true men; and we are not spies. 32 We are twelve sons of our father; one is no longer, and the youngest is with our father in the land of Canaan. 33 The man who is the lord of the land, said to us, In this way will I know you are true men: Leave one of your men with me, take grain for the famine of your houses, and go your way. 34 Bring back your youngest brother to me. Then I will know you are not spies, but you are indeed true men. Then I will free your brother, and you can trade in this land. 35 It came to pass as they all emptied their sacks, that, behold, every man's bundle of money was in his sack. When they and their father saw the bundles of money, they were deeply troubled. 36 Jacob their father said to them, You have bereaved me of my children: Joseph is no longer, and Simeon is now no longer, and you want to take Benjamin away. All these things are against me. 37 Reuben reasoned with his father, saying, Kill my two sons, if I fail to return him to you. Entrust him in to my hands, and I will bring him again to you. 38 Jacob argued, My son will never go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he is the only one left. If harm were to befall him while he was gone with you, then it would weigh down the gray hairs of my head with sorrow even to Sheol the grave.

Genesis 43

1 The famine was severe in the land. 2 It came to pass, when they had eaten up the grain they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them, Go again, and buy us a little food. 3 Judah spoke to him, saying, The man did solemnly swear to us, You will not see my face, except your brother is with you. 4 If you are willing to send our brother with us, then yes we will go down and buy your food. 5 But if you won’t send him, then no we will not go down; for the man said to us, You won’t see my face, except your brother is with you. 6 Israel cried, Why have you dealt so badly with me, that you told the man you had another brother? 7 They answered, The man asked questions concerning ourselves, and concerning our kin. He asked, Is your father still alive? Have you another brother? We answered him the truth. Could we have known that he would say, Bring your other brother down here? 8 Judah said to Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; so we can live, and not die, both we, and you, as well as our little ones. 9 I will be insurance for him; of my hands you can require him: if I don’t return him to you, and set him here before you again, then let me bear the blame for ever. 10 For if we had not delayed, we would certainly have already returned a second time. 11 Their father Israel said to them, If it has to be, do this then: take the choice fruits from the land in your vessels, carry it down to the man as a present, a little balm, some honey, spicery, myrrh, nuts, and almonds. 12 In addition take double the money with you; the price of the food and the money that was returned in the mouth of your sacks. Carry all this again in your hand; perhaps it was an oversight. 13 Take along your brother with you, arise now, go again to see this man. 14 God Almighty give you mercy before the man, so he may release to you your other brother and Benjamin. If I am bereaved of my children, then I am bereaved. 15 The men took the present, double the money, and Benjamin; then they left for Egypt to stand before Joseph. 16 When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the steward of his house, Bring them in to my house, kill and make ready an animal for the men will dine with me at noon. 17 The man did as Joseph bid; and the servant brought the men to Joseph's house. 18 The Israelites were afraid, because they were brought to Joseph's house; they said, This is because the money was returned in our sacks the first time, that is the reason we have been brought here; so he can find fault against us, and fall on us, and make slaves of us, and our donkeys. 19 So they came near to the steward of Joseph's house, and spoke with him at the door of the house, 20 Oh, my lord, we have been here before to buy food. 21 Last time it so happened, when we left Egypt and came to the lodging place, we opened our sacks, and each man's money was found in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight. We have brought it back to you. 22 We also have the other money to buy food this time: we do not know who put the money in our sacks. 23 He said, Peace to you, do not fear. Your God, and the God of your father, must have given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. Then he brought Simeon to join them. 24 The servant led the men into Joseph's house, he gave them water, and they washed their feet. He provided for their donkeys. 25 They made ready the present for Joseph's arrival at noon. They had heard they would eat bread there. 26 When Joseph came home, they brought him the present they had for him in the house, and bowed down themselves to him to the earth. 27 He asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom you spoke? Is he alive still? 28 They answered, Your servant our father is well, he is still living. They bowed their heads in humility. 29 He lifted up his eyes and saw Benjamin his brother, his own mother's son. He said, Is this your youngest brother, the one you told me about? God be gracious to you, my son. 30 Joseph acted quickly; for his heart yearned for his brother, and he sought a place to weep. He hurriedly entered his inner chamber, and wept there. 31 Then he washed his face, came out; and composed himself. He said, Set the table with bread. 32 The servant set a place for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, that ate with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians never eat bread with Hebrews. For it is an abomination to Egyptians. 33 They sat before him, in order - the first born according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth. The men wondered one with another. 34 Then he provided meals for them from before his face: but Benjamin's meal was five times the size as any of theirs. They all drank, and were glad with him.

Genesis 44

1 Joseph commanded the steward of his house. He told him, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry. Put every man's money in his sack's mouth. 2 Then put my cup, the silver one, in the sack's mouth of the youngest man, along with his grain money. He carried out the orders according to the word Joseph had spoken. 3 As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their donkeys. 4 When they were gone out of the city, but not yet far, Joseph said to his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when you catch up with them say to them, Why have you rewarded me evil for good? 5 Is this not the cup from which my lord drinks, and how he indeed acquires his divination knowledge? You have done evil in taking it. 6 He rode as commanded, then overtook them, and he spoke to them these words. 7 They answered to him, Why, my lord, do you speak such words as these? Far be it from your servants they should do such a thing. 8 Behold, the money, which last time we found in our sacks' mouths, we have brought it again to you out from the land of Canaan: why then should we steal out of your lord's house silver or gold? 9 With whoever of your servants it’s found, let him die, and we will also be my lord's bondmen. 10 He said, Now let it be according to your words: he with whom the cup is found shall be my bondman; but the rest of you will be blameless. 11 So they acted quickly, every man lowered his sack to the ground, and then every man opened his own sack. 12 The steward began his search, he started at the eldest, and finished off at the youngest. Alas it was found in Benjamin's sack. 13 Then they rent their clothes, and once again they all loaded the donkeys up, and returned back to the city. 14 Judah and his brethren came to Joseph's house. He was still there: and they fell before him on the ground. 15 Joseph said to them, What deed is this you have done? Do you not understand such a man as I can indeed divine? 16 Judah spoke up, What can we say to my lord? What shall we speak? How is it possible to clear ourselves? God has found out the iniquity of your servants: behold, we are my lord's bondmen, both we, and also the lad in whose hand the cup was found. 17 Joseph answered, Far be it from me that I should do this. Only the man in whose hand the cup is found, he alone is to be my bondman. As for you, get up and go in peace to your father. 18 Then Judah came near to him, he pleaded, Oh, my lord, let your servant, I ask you, speak a word in my lord's ears, and may your anger not burn against your servant; for you are even just as Pharaoh. 19 My lord asked his servants, Have you a father, or a brother? 20 We said to my lord, We have a father, an old man, with a child of his old age, a little one; his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother; and his father loves him greatly. 21 So you said to your servants, Bring him down here to me, so I can set my eyes on him. 22 But we said to my lord, The lad cannot leave his father: for if he should leave his father, his father would die. 23 Again you spoke with your servants, Except your youngest brother comes down here with you, you can never see my face again. 24 It so happened when we arrived before your servant my father, we told him the words of my lord. 25 Our father, in time, said to us, Go again, buy us a little food. 26 We told him, We cannot go down, if our youngest brother is with us, then yes we will make the journey. We are not allowed to see the man's face, expect our youngest brother is standing with us. 27 Your servant my father said to us, You know my wife birthed two sons for me. 28 The one went out from me but never returned, and I said, Surely he has been torn in pieces; I have never seen him since. 29 If you take away this son from me also, and harm should befall him, you will bring down my gray hairs on my head with sorrow to Sheol. 30 Now therefore when I come to your servant my father, and the lad is not with us; seeing that his life is bound up in the lad's life; 31 it will come to pass, when he sees that the lad is not with us, he will die from sorrow. It will be your servants that brought down the gray hairs of your servant our father with sorrow to Sheol. 32 For I, your servant became guarantee for the lad to my father, saying, If I do not bring him back to you, then I bear the blame before my father for ever. 33 Now therefore, please let your servant, abide instead of the lad as bondman to my lord? Let the lad go back up with his brothers. 34 For how can I face my father, if the lad is not with me? Else I will see the evil come on my father.

Genesis 45

1 Then Joseph could not restrain himself any longer before all of them who stood in front of him; and he cried out, Cause every man to go out from me. So all left and there stood no man with him, then Joseph made himself known to his brothers. 2 He wept aloud. The Egyptians heard, and the house of Pharaoh heard. 3 Joseph said to his brothers, I am Joseph; is my father still alive? His brothers could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence. 4 Joseph said to his brothers, Come near to me, I ask you. So they came near. He again said, I am Joseph your brother, who you sold in to Egypt. 5 Now do not be grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here: for God sent me ahead of you to preserve life. 6 For these two years already has the famine been ravaging the land. There are yet five more years to go, in which there shall be neither plowing nor harvest. 7 God sent me ahead of you to preserve you as a remnant in the earth, and to keep you alive by a great deliverance. 8 So now it was not you who sent me here, but God who did it. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord over all his house, even ruler over all the land of Egypt. 9 Now be quick, go up to my father, and say to him, Thus says your son Joseph, God has made me lord over all Egypt. Come down to me, do not wait; 10 and you will dwell in the land of Goshen. You will be near me, you, your children, and even your children's children. All your flocks, your herds, and everything that is yours. 11 There I will nourish you; for there are still five more years of famine to survive; lest you come to poverty, you, your household, and all that you have. 12 Behold, your eyes can see me, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin also, that it is my mouth, Joseph, who is speaking to you. 13 You are to tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that you have seen and witnessed. Make haste and quickly bring down my father to me here. 14 Joseph then fell on his brother Benjamin's neck, and wept over him; and Benjamin wept on his neck. 15 He kissed all his brothers, then wept on them. After these things his brothers talked with him. 16 The report of this event was heard in Pharaoh's house, saying, Joseph's brothers have arrived. This pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants. 17 Pharaoh said to Joseph, Tell this to your brothers, Do this: load your beasts, and go back to the land of Canaan. 18 Then gather up your father, your households, and return to me. I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and you will eat the fat of the land. 19 Now I have commanded you to do this, take the wagons of the land of Egypt for your little ones, and for your wives, then bring back your father. 20 Also do not regard your former belongings; for all the good of the land of Egypt is yours. 21 The sons of Israel did this, Joseph gave them wagons, according to the commandment of Pharaoh, and he gave them provisions for their journey. 22 To each of them he gave an extra change of clothing; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver, and five extra changes of clothing. 23 He sent provisions and gifts to his father after this manner: ten donkeys loaded with the good things of Egypt, ten female donkeys loaded with grain, bread and provision. These gifts were to source his father in the journey. 24 So he sent his brothers away, and they departed. He said to them, See that you do not argue along the way. 25 So they went up out of Egypt, and returned in to the land of Canaan to Jacob their father. 26 They told him everything said, Joseph is still alive, and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt. His heart fainted, for he could not believe them. 27 But they persisted, telling him all the words of Joseph, which he had said to them. When he saw all the wagons Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived. 28 Israel said, It is enough; Joseph my son remains alive. I will now go and see him before I die.

Genesis 46

1 Israel took his journey with all that he had, he arrived in Beer-sheba, and there offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. 2 God spoke to Israel in visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. He answered, Here I am. 3 God said, I am God, the God of your father. Do not fear to go down to Egypt; for there I will make of you a great nation. 4 I will go down with you in to Egypt; and I will also surely bring you back again. Joseph will put his hand on your eyes. 5 Jacob rose up from Beer-sheba. The sons of Israel transported Jacob their father, their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had provided to carry him. 6 They took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, then arrived at Egypt. Jacob, including all his seed with him: 7 his sons, his sons' sons with him, his daughters, his sons’ daughters, and all his seed he brought with him to Egypt. 8 These are the names of the children of Israel, who came to Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob's first born. 9 The sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. 10 The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. 11 The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. 12 The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul. 13 The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puvah, Iob, and Shimron. 14 The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel. 15 These are the sons of Leah, who she gave birth to as wife of Jacob in Paddan-aram. Along with his daughter Dinah: all the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty three. 16 The sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli. 17 The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and Serah their sister. The sons of Beriah: Heber, and Malchiel. 18 These are the sons of Zilpah, who Laban gave to Leah his daughter as a handmaid; and these children she gave birth to for Jacob, even sixteen souls. 19 The sons of Rachel, Jacob's wife: Joseph and Benjamin. 20 To Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, who Asenath, the daughter of Poti-phera priest of On, gave birth to with him. 21 The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. 22 These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob: all the souls added up to fourteen. 23 The sons of Dan: Hushim. 24 The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem. 25 These are the sons of Bilhah, who Laban gave to Rachel his daughter as a handmaid, and these children she gave birth to for Jacob: all the souls were seven. 26 So all the souls that came with Jacob to Egypt, from his loins, besides Jacob's sons' wives, all the souls were sixty six. 27 The sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two souls. All the souls of the house of Jacob, that came to Egypt, were seventy. 28 Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph, to get Joseph to show the way for the house of Israel to go to Goshen; then in time they arrived to the land of Goshen. 29 Joseph prepared his chariot, then went up to meet Israel his father there. He presented himself to his father, and fell on his neck, then wept on his neck a good while. 30 Israel said to Joseph, Now let me die, seems as I have seen your face, that you are indeed still alive. 31 Joseph said to his brothers, and to all his father's house, I will go up to Pharaoh, I will speak with him, and will say to him, My brothers, and my father's house, who were in the land of Canaan, have arrived here to join me. 32 The men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of cattle; they have brought their flocks, their herds, and all they have. 33 It shall come to pass, when Pharaoh calls you, and says, What is your occupation? 34 You are to reply, Your servants have been keepers of cattle from our youth even up until now, both we, and our fathers: so that you may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.

Genesis 47

1 Then Joseph went in and spoke to Pharaoh, he said, My father, my brothers, their flocks, and their herds, along with all they own, have come here from the land of Canaan. Behold, they are now in the land of Goshen. 2 From among his brothers he took five men, and presented them to Pharaoh. 3 Pharaoh said to the men, What is your occupation? They answered Pharaoh, Your servants are shepherds, both we, and our fathers. 4 They further said to Pharaoh, We have come here to stay in this land; for there is no pasture for your servants' flocks; as the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. Now therefore, we ask you, let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen. 5 Pharaoh addressed Joseph, saying, Your father and your brothers have arrived to join you. 6 The land of Egypt is before you; with the best of the land your father and your brothers can dwell here. In the land of Goshen let them dwell. If you know of any able men among them, then make them the shepherds over my cattle too. 7 Joseph brought in Jacob his father, then set him before Pharaoh: and Jacob blessed Pharaoh. 8 Pharaoh said to Jacob, How many are the years of your life? 9 Jacob answered Pharaoh, The years of my pilgrimage are one hundred and thirty years. Few and evil they have been - the years of my life, and they have not attained in comparison to the years of the lives of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimages. 10 Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from the presence of Pharaoh. 11 Joseph housed his father and brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded him. 12 Joseph nourished his father, brothers, and all his father's household there, with bread, according to their families. 13 No bread was found in all the land; for the famine was very severe, so the lands of Egypt and Canaan fainted by reason of the famine. 14 Joseph gathered up all the money in the land of Egypt, and the land of Canaan, for the grain they bought: and Joseph brought the money in to Pharaoh's house. 15 When the money was all spent in Egypt, and in Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph, and said, Give us bread, why should we die in your sight? Our money is gone. 16 Joseph said, Give me your cattle; and I will give you food for the price of your cattle, seems as your money is gone. 17 They brought their cattle to Joseph; and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for the horses, flocks, herds, and donkeys. He fed them with bread in exchange for all their cattle the duration of that year. 18 When that year was ended, they came to him again the second year, and said to him, We will not hide from my lord, our money is all gone; the herds of our cattle are already my lord's; there is nothing left we own in the sight of my lord, only our bodies, and lands. 19 Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our fields? Buy us with our fields for bread, then we and our fields will be servants of Pharaoh. Give us seed, so we will survive, and not die, then the land will not be left desolate. 20 So Joseph did as they said, and bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; every man of the Egyptians sold his field, because the famine was so severe against them: and the whole of the land became Pharaoh's. 21 As to the people, he moved them to cities from one end of the border of Egypt all the way to the other end of the nation. 22 Only the land of the priests was not bought, as the priests had their own portion allotted by Pharaoh, and they ate from their portion Pharaoh gave to them. In that way they never sold their land. 23 Then Joseph said to the people, Behold, see I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh, here is seed for you so you can sow the land. 24 It will so come to pass at the gathering of the harvests every year, you will give a fifth to Pharaoh, and the four fifths you will keep as seed of the field, and food for you, your households, and your little ones. 25 They said, You have saved our lives, let us find favor in your sight my lord, we will be Pharaoh's bond servants. 26 Joseph made it an official statute concerning the land of Egypt to this day, Pharaoh collects the fifth; only the land of the priests was exempt and did not become Pharaoh's possession. 27 Israel dwelt within the land of Egypt, in the land given them of Goshen; they obtained for themselves possessions there, and they were fruitful, multiplying exceedingly. 28 Jacob lived in the land of Egypt a further seventeen years: so all the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were a hundred and forty seven years. 29 The time drew near that Israel must die. He called his son Joseph to himself, and said to him, If now I have found favor in your sight, please place your hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me. Swear to me that when I die you will not bury me here, I ask you, within Egypt; 30 But that when I sleep with my fathers, you will carry me out away from Egypt, and bury me in our chosen burying place. Joseph promised, I will do as you have asked me. 31 Jacob further said, Swear it to me, and he swore it to him. Israel bowed himself down on the bed's head where he sat.

Genesis 48

1 It came to pass after these things, that someone said to Joseph, Behold, your father is deadly sick. Joseph went and took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. 2 Someone told Jacob, Look, your son Joseph has come to see you. Israel strengthened himself, and sat up in the bed. 3 Jacob said to Joseph, God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, he blessed me, 4 and said to me, Behold, I will make you fruitful, and multiply you. I will make you in to a great company of peoples, and give this land to your descendants after you for an everlasting possession. 5 Now your two sons, who were born to you here in the land of Egypt before I came to join you here in Egypt, they are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh, even as Reuben and Simeon, are mine. 6 Your other children, who you birth after them, they will belong to you; they will be called after the name of their brothers in their inheritance. 7 As for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died with me in the land of Canaan on the way, when there was still some distance to go before reaching Ephrath. I buried her there along the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem. 8 Israel looked on Joseph's sons, and asked, Whose are these? 9 Joseph answered his father, They are my sons, whom God has given to me here. He said, Bring them to me, I ask you and I will bless them. 10 Now the eyes of Israel were dim from age, so he could not see well. Joseph brought them near to him; so Israel could kiss and embrace them. 11 Israel said to Joseph, I had not imagined I would see your face, yet God has let me see your sons additionally also. 12 Joseph brought them forward from between his knees; and he bowed himself with his face to the earth. 13 Joseph took both, Ephraim in his right hand guided toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand. Then Joseph brought them near to his father. 14 Israel crossed over arms, his right hand, laying it on Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and placed his left hand on Manasseh's head, guiding his hands deliberately; for Manasseh was the first born and rightful heir. 15 Then he blessed Joseph, with this blessing, The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, The God who has fed me all my life long even to this day. 16 The angel who has redeemed me from all evil, bless these lads; and let my name be named over them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac. Let them grow into a great multitude in the midst of the earth. 17 When Joseph saw his father had laid his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it displeased him. He held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head and transfer it on the head of Manasseh. 18 Joseph beseeched his father, Not so, my father; for this one is the first born; put your right hand on his head. 19 His father refused, and explained, I know it, my son, I know it. He also will become a people, and he also shall be great, but his younger brother shall be greater than he is, and his descendants are to become a multitude of nations. 20 So he blessed them that day, saying, In you, the nation of Israel will bless, with this blessing, God make you as like Ephraim and as Manasseh: and in this way he set Ephraim ahead of Manasseh. 21 Israel said to Joseph, Behold, I am dying now, but God will be with you afterwards, and return you back again to the land of your fathers. 22 Additionally I have given to you one extra portion above all your other brothers, which I took out of the hand of the Amorites with my sword and bow.

Genesis 49

1 Jacob called for his sons, and said: gather yourselves together, so I can tell you what will become of you in the latter days. 2 Assemble yourselves before me, and hear, sons of Jacob. Hearken to Israel your father. 3 Reuben, you are my first born, my might, and the beginning of my strength; The preeminence of dignity, and preeminence of power. 4 Boiling over as water, you will no longer have the preeminence; because you went in to your father's bed and you defiled it. He went up to my couch. 5 Simeon and Levi are brothers; Weapons of violence are their swords. 6 My soul, do not ever come into their council; to their assembly, my glory, never be united to them. For in their anger they killed a man. In their selfish will they hocked an ox. 7 May their anger be cursed, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel. I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel. 8 Judah, you will be praised by all your brothers. Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies; your father's sons will bow down before you. 9 Judah is a lion's cub. From the prey, my son, you are gone up: He lay down, he crouched as a lion, and as a lioness; who will rouse him up? 10 The scepter will not depart from Judah. Nor the ruler's staff from between his feet. Until Shiloh has come: to him will all the people give obedience. 11 Binding his foal to the vine, his donkey’s colt to the choice vine. He has washed his garments in wine, his clothing in the blood of grapes. 12 His eyes are red with wine, his teeth white with milk. 13 Zebulun will dwell at the haven edge of the sea; he will be a haven for ships, his border will reach Sidon. 14 Issachar is a strong donkey, laying down between the sheepfolds. 15 He saw a resting place and it was good, the land there was pleasant. He bowed his shoulder to carry, and became a servant under physical labor. 16 Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. 17 Dan shall be a serpent in the way. An adder in the path, that bites the horse's heels, so the rider falls backwards. 18 I have waited for your salvation, Jehovah. 19 Gad, a troop shall press up against him; but he will push back against their heel. 20 From out of Asher, his bread will be fat, and he will yield royal delicacies. 21 Naphtali is a deer let loose: He gives good words. 22 Joseph is a fruitful bough. A fruitful bough by a fountain; his branches run over the wall. 23 The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, they persecuted him. 24 But his bow stayed strong, the arms of his hands were made strong. By the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, from there comes the shepherd, the stone of Israel. 25 Even by the God of your father, who helps you, and by the Almighty, who blesses you. With blessings from heaven above, and blessings of the deep beneath. Blessings of the breasts, and of the womb. 26 The blessings of your father have prevailed above the blessings of my origins. To the utmost peaks of the everlasting hills, these blessings will come on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of the one who was separate from his brothers. 27 Benjamin is a wolf who is ravenous. In the morning she shall devour her prey, and at evening he shall divide the spoils. 28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is what their father spoke to them when he blessed them; every one according to his prophetic blessing he blessed them. 29 He charged them, and said to them, I am now to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave at the field of Ephron the Hittite. 30 Bury me in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, located just before Mamre, back in the land of Canaan, where Abraham bought the field from Ephron the Hittite to keep as a possession of a burying place. 31 There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife; and there I buried Leah. 32 The field and the included cave also located there, which was purchased from the children of Heth. 33 When Jacob had finished charging his sons these things, he gathered up his feet in to the bed, and yielded up the ghost, and was gathered to his people.

Genesis 50

1 Joseph fell on his father's face, he wept over him, and kissed him. 2 Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father, and so the physicians embalmed Israel. 3 When the forty days were fulfilled; as it takes forty days to finish all the embalming process: the Egyptians wept for Israel seventy more days. 4 When the days of weeping for him were over, Joseph spoke to the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found favor in your eyes, please speak, I ask you, to Pharaoh, saying, 5 My father had me swear, I am about to die. Bury me in my grave I have prepared for myself in the land of Canaan, you are to bury me there. Now therefore allow me to go up, I ask, so I can bury my father, and then I will return to you again. 6 Pharaoh agreed, Go up bury your father, according to what he had you promise. 7 So Joseph went up to bury his father; along with him went all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his own house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt. 8 All the house of Joseph accompanied them, his brothers, and his father's house made up the party for the journey. Only their little ones, flocks, and herds, they left behind in the land of Goshen. 9 They made the journey there with both chariots and horsemen, it was a very great company. 10 When they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, they lamented with a very great lamentation. There Joseph was in mourning for his father seven days. 11 When the local inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw this mourning at the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning party of the Egyptians. So the name of that place was called Abel-mizraim, it is beyond the Jordan. 12 His sons carried out all the words according as to what he had commanded them. 13 His sons fulfilled the order, transporting him to the land of Canaan, and there buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought included in the price of the field, to keep as a burying place, off Ephron the Hittite, just by Mamre. 14 After Joseph had buried his father, he returned to Egypt, with his brothers, and all who went up with him to bury his father. 15 When Joseph's brothers saw their father was dead, they said to one another, It may be now Joseph will hate us, and will fully repay us for all the evil what we did to him. 16 They sent a message to Joseph, saying, Before he died, our father, commanded us - saying, 17 So you are to tell Joseph, Please forgive, I ask you now, the transgression of your brothers, and their sin of evil, they did to you. Now, we beseech you, forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father. Joseph wept when they said this to him. 18 His brothers then went and fell down before his face; they pleaded, Behold, we are your servants. 19 Joseph said to them, Do not fear, am I in the place of God? 20 As for you, yes, you meant evil against me; but God meant it only for good, to bring to pass, even as it is this day, to save many people alive. 21 Now therefore do not fear. I will nourish you, and your little ones. He comforted them with these kind words. 22 Joseph lived in Egypt, his father's house lived there also. Joseph lived for a hundred and ten years. 23 Joseph saw Ephraim's children to the third generation. The children of Machir, son of Manasseh were born on Joseph's knees. 24 Joseph said to his brothers, I am dying; but God will surely visit you, he will bring you up out of this land to the land he promised to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 25 Joseph made the children of Israel promise an oath, saying, God will surely visit you, and you must carry up my bones from here with you. 26 So Joseph died, being a hundred and ten years old. Then they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
